The Lancaster County Council on Aging is a local nonprofit serving Lancaster County by providing senior services and public transportation. Our mission is to provide a system of coordinated and comprehensive services to enable older persons of Lancaster County to continue to maintain their independence.

DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION

The Lancaster County Council on Aging (LCCOA) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Director of Transportation to oversee the operations of the Lancaster Area Ride Service (LARS). This role will ensure the efficiency, safety, and growth of LCCOA's transportation services while managing compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The ideal candidate will bring leadership experience in transportation management and a strong commitment to serving the senior community.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing Operations: Oversee daily transportation services, including public and Medicaid transit.
  • Scheduling & Efficiency: Ensure efficient trip scheduling, mileage optimization, and adherence to service policies.
  • Budget & Compliance: Manage the transportation department budget and ensure compliance with funding requirements.
  • Personnel Oversight: Supervise dispatchers, drivers, and other transportation staff.
  • Service Expansion: Implement and improve programs to increase availability, affordability, and accessibility of LARS transportation services.
  • Vehicle Maintenance & Safety: Oversee fleet maintenance, ensuring vehicles are safe and operational while managing maintenance costs.
  • Community Engagement: Coordinate with county officials, community organizations, and funding agencies to support transportation initiatives.
  • Reporting Responsibilities: Prepare and submit reports for local, state, and federal agencies to ensure compliance with funding and operational regulations.

 

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Transportation Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: Proven experience in transportation management and employee supervision.

 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of transportation policies and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage budgets and oversee compliance reporting.
